Welcome Back!

Hello everyone and welcome back to a bright new smiling semester!

Here are some updates:

We are building a whole new website! It should be ready a week from today.

We have some events lined up for you! They will look all pretty on the New website, but for now, on the Old website, they just look like text.

Friday 1/27 Welcome BBQ + games
Friday 2/3 CSUA GM1
Friday 2/10 CFG1

Thursday 2/16 Hackathon Kickoff
Friday 2/17 – Saturday 2/18 Hackathon

Things you need to know:

We will announce all of the details on Monday so check back then!

A CFG or coding for grub is a coding challenge where industry professionals present an industry level problem. The problem is random, we do not know what it is ahead of time. The language and food are announced in advance. There will be small prizes to the winning team (usually teams are in pairs). Bring a laptop.

A GM is a general meeting. We encourage you to come meet us, eat our food, and listen to our interesting speaker. There’s usually a social portion afterwards for people to play boardgames or just hang out.

Welcome BBQ is just that– we have TopDog and veggie platters and we get a group of geeky people together so they can geek out. Get your geek on.

Hackathon kickoff– the companies sponsoring the hackathon tell you about their developer tools and we go over the guidelines of the event. Heroku’s one of our sponsors this year so come meet them!

Hackathon–this our fun coding challenge. The point is to have fun and code that project you haven’t quite made time for. Now is that time! There’s really big prizes. We recommend teams of 4. Get ideas and team members now! We have events every Friday so if you come to those you’ll probably meet your dream team of project partners!

Remember to check back Monday for more!

Sincerely,
Samantha Dove

Elections held at GM3

GM3 is our boring dinner where you vote in new people to old politburo positions. I gotta say, Biryani House ‘s food was very good. The voting bucket got a surprising 3 votes for External Events, but alas, it had no chance against its passionate opponents. Anyway, results are in:

President == Heidi Galbraith
VP Tech == Josh Hawn
VP InDrel == Jacob Newman
Sec/Trez == Jessica Pan
Outreach == Samantha Dove
External Events == Mary Stufflebeam
Internal Events == François Hayg Astourian

Congratulations guys! And gals! Is that a female majority on politburo? Why yes, yes it is.
I’ll have links to position descriptions up and working soon. In the meantime, they’re in the constitution-to-be-updated in the about section.

Best,
Sammysam
